In its 2009-10 Budget Statement the Federal Government announced major new changes to the Youth Allowance scheme, particularly concerning the eligibility criteria that applicants need to meet. These changes are of great importance to rural and regional applicants, and at the present time apply to all new applicants and will also apply to present recipients who later apply for renewal.
