A Cuppa With Liz O’Dwyer

Date:                                   Thursday, 18 October 2012

Time:                                 7pm – 8.30pm AEST (remember to adjust for your time zone and daylight savings.)

Liz O’Dwyer has always had a passion for delivering service excellence and after many years of contemplating running her own business she finally took the plunge and opened customer-centricity.  However, this was not without its challenges.  The learning curve she triumphed over in the first 3 years of her business was transformational, on a business level, but just as importantly, on a personal level. It has given her the strength, knowledge, confidence and tenacity to create her new online venture, Business Success Radio (BSR).  Along with her three fellow directors, BSR provides an outlet for reliable and up-to-date information to support business success presented by market experts who will stimulate, educate, inspire and challenge business owners into a different way of thinking.  Liz is constantly speaking with women who doubt themselves, and keep themselves from achieving and living their dream life.  Here she shares her story on her limiting beliefs and how she overcame them in order to live the life she now has.

Have Your Say – Quad Bike Safety

Last week the Federal Government released the discussion paper “Review of design and engineering controls for improving quad bike safety”. According to the report, 72 Australians have died in work-related quad bike incidents since 2001.

The government is seeking stakeholder comment on design and/or engineering solutions to:

• improve quad bike stability and safety
• improve operator protection in the event of a rollover
• minimise the capacity of children to start and/or operate quad bikes
• minimise the capacity of a quad bike to carry passengers.

The paper applies the hierarchy of controls to quad bike safety and says design and engineering solutions are more effective in controlling risks than training and PPE.

Engineers, manufacturers, quad bike users and representative agencies, safety managers, community groups, unions, injury prevention specialists, and commonwealth, state and territory regulators, departments and agencies are being asked to provide feedback.

Submissions are due on 28 September.

CWA lends a hand

The Country Women’s Association has helped launch a kit aimed at stopping domestic violence.

Country Women’s Association of Australia 34th Triennial Conference

Excerpt sourced from: http://www.juliecollins.fahcsia.gov.au/node/231

‘This year the CWA is 90 years young and it’s a remarkable anniversary for a remarkable organisation.

Every Australian recognises in the name ‘CWA” a tradition of tough country women who’ve brought their signature brand of resilience, good humour and generosity to the service of rural communities.

What you do is deeply valued, not only in the places where you live and work but here in Canberra and right across our land, not least in our kitchens where so many well-thumbed copies of CWA cookbooks have pride of place.

But as you all know so well, your work is about far more than scones and tea.

It’s about the serious business of getting decent facilities and services into country communities, looking after the physical and mental health of those you love, and ensuring that our rural industries get the support and recognition they deserve.

I’m also proud of the contribution the CWA makes to debates about values and policy, and the thoughtful approach you take in response to forces like economic restructuring, the emergence of new technologies and fast moving social change which are so greatly altering the face of our nation.

In this phase of Australia’s journey, your strength and wisdom are needed more than ever, and you have every reason to march confidently toward your centenary, proud of what your predecessors have achieved over ninety years – and determined to do even more in the months and years ahead.’

A Workshop for Older Farmers Making Farm Work Easier as we get Older

The UPA in conjunction with the Little River Landcare Group of Yeoval is running a workshop that will be of interest to all farmers of around 55 years and older.

The Workshop is a very practical workshop where farmers will discuss the farm work that is getting harder as they get older, and will provide opportunity to thinks about the ways that older farmers can get MORE FIT FOR FARM WORK as older people, as well as ways that farm work can be made MORE FIT FOR THE OLDER FARMER.

The resources that will be made available have been produced by groups of older farmers all around Australia, helped by people in the Australian Centre for Agricultural Health and Safety at Moree, in country NSW.

All older farmers who have been part of the program to date have found the experience very worthwhile, and have found some satisfaction in realising that their increasing difficulties in some areas of work are not unique to them.

“I feel more normal”

“I can make some changes that will be useful.”

“I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to discussion these practical things with other farmers of my age”

Workshop details:
Date: 4th July, 2012
Time: 2.30pm – 5.30pm
Venue: Yeoval Golf Club – BBQ dinner supplied
